HBCU basketball player part of NCAA tournament run joins NBA Summer League roster

As the NBA Summer League shifts to Las Vegas, the Detroit Pistons begin their journey with an HBCU addition on the roster.

Former Grambling State forward Jourdan Smith has joined the Pistons Summer League team.

Smith played his last two collegiate seasons at Grambling State, averaging 9.2 points on 45% shooting from the field, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks.

He helped lead Grambling to back-to-back SWAC championship games, being named to the All-SWAC tournament team in 2023.

After losing to Texas Southern in the championship game in their first appearance, GSU got its revenge in a rematch to claim its first-ever conference title.

The Tigers’ forward put his stamp on the game, finishing with 20 points and two blocks.

Detroit will make its Summer League debut Saturday at 7 p.m. ET against the Philadelphia 76ers. The game will air on ESPN2.
