*Iggy Azalea is at the forefront of Tory Lanez’s legal drama as the Australian rapper sent a letter to the judge in support of the artist ahead of his sentencing this week.

Iggy is now catching heat for seemingly defending a violent abuser, with one person tweeting, “If this isn’t a typical ride or die mentality, idk what else y’all want to call it.”

She has denied supporting Lanez and said on social media that she “never intended to publicly comment” on his sentencing.

“I don’t ‘support’ anyone,” Iggy told fans on Monday night. “[T]he whole thing is full of oddities. My letter never mentioned anything in regard to what happened that night.”

She does, however, support rehabilitation-oriented sentencing.

A Los Angeles judge sentenced Tory Lanez on Tuesday to 10 years in prison without the possibility of parole for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020.

Judge David Herriford revealed during Monday’s sentencing hearing that he received more than 70 “letters of support” for Lanez, including Azalea’s note in which she asked for a “transformational, not life-destroying” sentence.

“I was asked to write about my genuine experience and the type of punishment I think he deserves,” she explained on social media, Complex reports. “I did.”

Meanwhile, journalist Meghann Cuniff published Iggy’s entire letter online, prompting many people to slam the one-hit wonder for apparently lying about the full scope of her remarks to the judge.

“I would not write to you on behalf of an abuser,” Iggy Azalea wrote in her letter to the judge. “I refuse to believe that he would do anything in malice especially to a woman. He said this is an opportunity to humble himself and soften his heart- ironic to hear one of the kindest people I know strive to become even kinder. I’m not shocked- Its who he is. Watering and shining light on others until something beautiful grows. Daystar Peterson is not the pest you’ve heard about, he’s a gardener. He helps others bloom.”

In one part of her statement, she wrote … “if [Tory] is able to remain in the United States after he has served time, [she] would employ him without hesitation as an executive producer on [her] next album.”

“In fact – I already hired him for the job prior to his conviction!” she shared.

Below are some reactions to Issy Azalea’s letter.
