Amanda Gorman, the 22-year-old who made history as the youngest poet with her reading of “The Hill We Climb” during the 46th inauguration ceremony, is proving to be a force that can’t be reckoned with.
The Harvard alumna has signed with IMG Models (Chanel Iman, Joan Smalls) and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the agency will focus on building her profile through brand endorsements and editorial opportunities.
Gorman has been receiving praise since she recited her poem during President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ inauguration. From Oprah Winfrey who gifted the poet earrings and a ring that’s shaped like a caged bird as a tribute to Maya Angelou’s “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” to Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda who surprised her with a special message.
“The right words in the right order can change the world, and you proved that yesterday with your brilliant piece,” said the composer and actor on Good Morning America. “I’m so incredibly proud of you and I can’t wait to see what you write next. Keep changing the world, one word at a time. You smashed it!”
To which the utterly shocked Los Angeles native told Robin Roberts, “I almost fell out of my chair.”
