Jackson State 1,000-yard rusher Sy’Veon Wilkerson future status with team unclear

If Jackson State head coach T.C. Taylor’s latest comments are any indication, then the Tigers’ All-SWAC running back Sy’Veon Wilkerson could have one foot out the door.

In a recent press conference, Taylor stated that Wilkerson is currently not working with the team saying the running back “is trying to figure some things out right now.”

“He’s a part of this football team till he tells us he is not,” Taylor said. “We got to focus on the guys that are in here every day.”

In his first season with Jackson State, the Delaware State transfer finished with 1,151 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

Wilkerson was named to the All-SWAC First Team, making him one of four players on the Jackson State offense to be named to the all-conference first unit.

Shortly after his former Delaware State teammate Esaias Guthrie announced his decision to transfer to Jackson State, Wilkerson reaffirmed his commitment to the team on an Instagram Live stream saying he would return for the 2023 season.
