Jackson State wins recruiting battle with Power Five schools to land 4-star defensive lineman

The Jackson State football program has scored another significant recruiting win.

KaTron Evans, a 2021 four-star defensive tackle from Baltimore, announced his commitment to Jackson State on Saturday.

“1000% committed to THE Jackson State University,” Evans wrote. “P.S always bet on yourself.”

Evans is the No. 17 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 9 prospect in Maryland, per 247Sports. He is the highest-ranked high school prospect to commit to the program in school history.

Evans previously signed with Tennessee before being granted received a release from his National Letter of Intent last month.

Prior to committing to JSU, Evans held has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and Arizona State.

Before the start of the 2021 spring season, Jackson State acquired its highest-rated class headlined by four-star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and De’Jahn Warren, who was the No. 1-rated junior college defensive back in the country.

The Tigers’ recruiting class currently rank first in the FCS and the SWAC, and is No. 86 in all of college football.
