Jodie Turner-Smith Reveals How 'Sorry To Bother You' Helped Her Meet Her Husband, Joshua Jackson

In a recent interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Without Remorse and Anne Boleyn star Jodie Turner-Smith talked about how she met her husband, Dawson’s Creek star Joshua Jackson. Part of their meet-up included an unlikely assist from the Boots Riley film Sorry to Bother You.

“I did not show my hand at all. I saw him before he saw me, and when I saw him, I was like, ‘I want that.’ And then when he saw me, I just pretended like I didn’t see him,” she said, as reported by xoNecole.

She said she was wearing the shirt Tessa Thompson wore in Sorry to Bother You, which helped him notice her.

“…[H]e shouts across the room, ‘DETROIT!’ And I was like, ‘Uhhhhhh.’ And then he came over,” she said.

The name Detroit is important to Sorry to Bother You; in the film, Detroit is the name of Thompson’s character, an activist who becomes entangled with hapless telemarketer Cassius Green (LaKeith Stanfield). In the film, Detroit develops a relationship with Cassius, who figures out how to code-switch to the extreme to get ahead in his career.

Without Remorse is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Her upcoming project, Anne Boleyn, will air on UK Channel 5 this year and stars Turner-Smith as the tragic English queen who is beheaded by King Henry VIII.

According to Biography, her time as queen was marked with scandal from the beginning, with King Henry leaving the Roman Catholic Church to annul his current marriage. Boleyn was eventually mistreated by King Henry for not providing him with male heirs and had her beheaded under the false charges of witchcraft, incest, conspiracy against the king and adultery. Ironically, despite King Henry believing women couldn’t inherit the throne, his daughter with Boleyn, Queen Elizabeth I, became one of the most well-known and storied queens.
