Joe Biden Has Officially Won Georgia; Trump Wins North Carolina

Joe Biden Has Officially Won Georgia; Trump Wins North Carolina By Essence ·November 13, 2020November 13, 2020

It’s been a little over a week since Election Day and the remaining two states have finally been called.

As network analysts predicted, President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. has officially won the state of Georgia, while President Donald Trump was victorious in North Carolina.

This brings Biden’s electoral votes total to 306, with Trump now at 232. The two states were the last to be officially called in the 2020 presidential election.

With this win in Georgia, Biden has now flipped five of the states Trump won in 2016 from red to blue, The New York Times reports. Biden also flipped Michigan, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Biden beat Trump in Georgia by a margin of 0.3 percentage points and just over 14,000 votes. Georgia became within reach for Democrats largely due to Black women and women of color being engaged and mobilized to vote, with politician and activist Stacey Abrams helping to lead the charge against voter suppression in the state.
