Jackson State once again sent shockwaves through the college football recruiting industry by receiving a commitment from one of the nation’s top wide receiver prospects.
On Saturday, St. Louis, Missouri high school receiver Kevin Coleman committed to Jackson State during the fourth quarter of the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
Coleman, a four-star prospect and No. 4-ranked receiver in the country, picked the Tigers over the likes of USC, Miami and Florida State.
“I really stamped my final decision (Friday),” Coleman said during the game, which was televised live on NBC. “Really just talked to my parents, told them the decision I was making was to be different to make my own legacy, to make change.
“I’m taking my talents to play for Primetime.”

The commitment comes a month after Jackson State and Deion Sanders flipped the nation’s No. 1 recruit Travis Hunter from Florida State to the Tigers in what was viewed then as a groundbreaking industry first.

Coleman, who is friends with Hunter, explained that the relationship did play a role in his decision to chose Jackson State.
“Travis Hunter is one of my best friends, “he said. “When he made that move I been wanting to make that move. When he made that move I couldn’t leave him alone. I feel like he the best DB and I’m the best receiver. I want that relationship to stay tight. I want us to grow together. I wants us to compete every day against each other.
“Coach Prime I believe in him and trust him. I believe he’s going to get me where I want to go. Also I believe in myself. I feel like you can go anywhere and compete. Feel like one day everybody going to see kids can go anywhere and compete and make it anywhere. I trust that Primetime is going to develop and trust he’s going to put right people in the room to develop me. I just felt I could do it there.”
