Are you ready to see La La Anthony’s stunning face return to your screen for a new season of BMF? The actress, whose career ripened since her days as an MTV VJ on Total Request Live, has just wrapped the 4th season of the hit Starz series. We’ve followed Anthony’s rapidly growing acting career that began with movie roles like Two Can Play At That Game and Think Like A Man. Years later, her resume has evolved to include two of the hottest series on television that center Black culture. Not only does the 42-year-old actress shine in her role on BMF, but she’s also captured the hearts of fans with her controversial role as Dom on Showtime’s The Chi.
La La Anthony Spills Some Tea About Her Characters From ‘BMF’ And ‘The Chi’
“We just finished filming season four of BMF down in LA. And then we are wrapping up filming season seven of The Chi. Between BMF and The Chi, I think I’m so lucky to be on two incredible shows with great writers, great showrunners, and great stories,” she tells me in an exclusive interview.
“It’s going to be great to see my characters, Markisha, on BMF and Dom on The Chi. Both are completely different journeys, but still, at the core, dealing with what most women are dealing with on a day-to-day basis, trying to figure out love and relationships and everything like that. So, it’s gonna be great to see both on TV,” she continues.
We watch Markisha navigate her relationship with Terry, who has a baby mama who feels betrayed by his infidelities and a disapproving family that wants him to walk away from the drug world and anyone associated with it. Only love can make a woman choose that dynamic, and Markisha is doing her part. But is that enough?
“Markisha is trying to figure out that love triangle between Terry, his baby’s mom, and his family. Then she’s kind of on the side wondering, ‘Where do I fit in?’ People question whether she is really with him because she loves him or if it is a money play. The dynamics of that love triangle continue this season and get even crazier,” Anthony explains.
One thing that can’t be ignored is Markisha’s fly wardrobe that perfectly depicts the swag of the early 90s. “It’s funny ’cause when you put the clothes on, you instantly transformed into that era and that time, and I’m like, God, it was so cool back then. Everything was cool. Like everything they did, the way they moved was so cool,” She says.
Then there’s Dom, a confident chef who doesn’t let the chatter of her past define who she is. She’s focusing on the new man in her life and her drama-filled job at Smokey’s.
“Dom on The Chi is trying to make her way as an independent woman. And she brings it up often: don’t judge me by how many bodies I got or who I slept with. That has nothing to do with who I am as a person. And it’s interesting ’cause a lot of people have a lot of conversations about that, how we as women are so judged by that. But guys could do it, and it’s fine. So again, both characters go through different things,” she says.
There is no known release date for BMF, but it is rumored to return on Starz in early 2025. While The Chi is rumored to return on Showtime in early to mid 2025.
