Saying it was the best decision for his family, Latrell Scott announced Wednesday that he is stepping down as head coach at Norfolk State to accept a position at East Carolina.
The news was first reported by Yahoo Sports college football writer Pete Thamel.
Sources: Latrell Scott is expected to become an assistant coach at East Carolina. He’s expected to leave Norfolk State, where he served as the head coach for six years. He’s been an assistant coach at Tennessee, UVA and Western Carolina.

“This was a very hard decision. Brandi, Chase and I love the NSU campus community, our staff and players,” Scott said in a statement. “It was truly a family decision that we feel is best for us right now. We will miss this program we’ve become so ingrained in and want nothing best for the Spartans moving forward.”

Scott was named head coach at Norfolk State in 2014 and compiled a 21-35 record with the Spartans in five seasons.
“We would like to thank Coach Scott for his hard work and dedication to our football program over these past six years,” athletics director Melody Webb said. “I wish him and his family much success in the future.”
Assistant head coach William “B.T.” Sherman will serve as interim head coach until a replacement is found.
Norfolk State was one of six MEAC schools to not participate in spring football in 2021.
