LeVar Burton Admits 'It Will Hurt' If He's Passed Over As Full-Time 'Jeopardy!' Host

Fresh off the news that he will host his own masterclass on the power of storytelling, Roots actor and Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton is discussing being the fan favorite to succeed Alex Trebek as the host of Jeapordy!

In an interview with The New York Times Magazine, discused potentially stepping in as the full-time host of Jeopardy!, which he is set to host sometime in late July.

“There’s something inside me that says this makes sense. I feel like this is what I’m supposed to do,” Burton said. “Jeopardy! is a cultural touchstone and for a Black man to occupy that podium is significant.”

In the interview, Burton also admitted that being passed over as Alex Trebek’s successor on Jeopardy! wouldn’t be a great feeling for him.

“It will hurt. I’m not going to lie. But if that happens, I will get over it,” he said. “I will be fine. Remember: Everything happens perfectly and for a reason. That is my default. It’s all going to be OK. Because it always is.”

Burton is just one of many set to host Jeopardy in the coming weeks. Among the other hosts include Good Morning America‘s George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts, Today‘s Savannah Guthrie, Dr. Sanjay Gupta and CNBC’s David Faber.
