Lil Nas X is taking a break from the spotlight.
After a whirlwind year, the record-breaking rapper has announced plans to take some time off. “it’s been a wild last 7 months and im ready to take a little time off,” he tweeted on Friday.
As a result, he has canceled this weekend’s appearances at TwitchCon in San Diego, Calif. on Saturday and the SANDBOX Festival in Mesa, Ariz. on Sunday. “sorry to everyone attending twitchcon or the sandbox music festival, i will not be there. i love u guys and will make it up to you some way,” he added.

The 20-year-old has had a banner year, thanks to the massive success of “Old Town Road,” which became the longest-running No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 history, with 19 weeks at the top. His follow-up single “Panini” and his 7 EP were also certified platinum by the RIAA.
Nas recently appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” where he opened about his sexuality. “Just knowing it was something that I should have been done,” he said of his decision to come out. “But I was not in a position where I had to worry about like family and friends, like how they would react. But in the past year, I’m on a new level so it doesn’t really matter, I guess.”
Just a day before his announcement, Fiona Apple claimed that Lil Nas X owes her money for sampling her song “Every Single Night” from her 2012 album The Idler Wheel… on his 2018 Nasarati mixtape cut “Kim Jung.”
“You sampled that song, too, in a song called ‘Kim Jong Un,’ I think,” the “Criminal” singer said in a video. “And, hey, where’s my money, you cute little guy? Where’s my money?”
