Lil Wayne Says ‘Funeral’ Album Is Done

Lil Wayne is finishing off his Funeral album.

After first announcing the project in 2016, the Young Money chief has revealed that the long-awaited album is finally complete and awaiting release.

During an interview with Wild Wayne on New Orleans radio station Q93 (via HipHop-N-More), Tunechi announced that Funeral will arrive before the year is over. “The Funeral is my next album. I’ma be dropping that by the end of the year,” he said.

When asked whether it was close to being done, he replied, “My albums always done,” adding that it’s up to his team including Young Money president Mack Maine to select the songs for the project.

He previously told XXL that he’s collaborated with a “bunch of artists” for Funeral including Lil Baby and Big Sean, along with producers such as LoopHoles, Rio, Academics, MonstaBeatz, and London On Da Track.

The album will have a more current feel. “With me, what the new thing is for me is actually trying to put out music that sounds like a little more like today’s music,” said Wayne. “What that means for me is the difference is adding hooks. I forget about hooks. I forget ’em. Somebody gotta come in the booth and stop me from rapping, like, ‘This is where you stop it and add a hook.’”

Weezy also hinted at the potential for a Carter VI. When asked if there would be a sequel to 2018’s Tha Carter V, he replied, “I’m not sure. I wouldn’t count it out.”
