‘Lovecraft Country’ Star Wunmi Mosaku To Return To HBO For ‘We Own This City’ From 'The Wire' Team

Lovecraft Country may not be returning to HBO for a second season but one of its stars, Wumni Mosaku, will be back at the network.

Deadline reports that Mosaku is cast in premium cabler’s new limited miniseries, We Own This City.

The series comes from another HBO iconic show team: The Wire’s executive producer David Simon and producer George Pelecanos. Jon Bernthal, Josh Charles and Jamie Hector are also on board for the project. Reinaldo Marcus Green is set to direct and executive produce the series. It’s based on Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton’s book We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption

The six-hour limited series will chronicle the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force. It’ll also highlight the corruption and moral collapse in the city, which involved the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrests.

Mosaku will play an attorney assigned to the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. The division was formed to investigate policing practices in Baltimore prior to the Gun Trace Task Force criminal investigation. Her character’s work work “centers on the systemic reasons police corruption and bad behavior are excused by Baltimore City prosecutors, judges and the police department itself.”

Production on the miniseries is set to begin this month.

Mosaku earned critical acclaim for her role in Lovecraft Country. She currently stars in Marvel Studios Loki, which is currently streaming on Disney+.
