Low-scoring Orange Blossom Classic registers Sunday’s second-highest college football TV rating

Labor Day weekend was filled with college football on television and HBCUs were a big part of it.

The Orange Blossom Classic — the most anticipated season opener in recent years between Florida A&M and Jackson State on Sunday afternoon — drew an average of 700,000 viewers on ESPN 2, according to ShowBuzzDaily.

It was the second-highest rated game of the day only behind Florida State-Notre Dame, on ABC, that drew 7.7 million viewers.

The Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic which showcased Grambling State-Tennessee State on NFL Network drew 315,000 viewers.

Figures for Sunday’s Tuskegee-Fort Valley State matchup on ESPNU were not immediately available.

For the weekend, four games drew better than 5 million viewers across ABC, FOX, and ESPN, the most in the opening week since 2016.
