'Magnolia Bloom': 1950s Period Drama Short Starring Lex Scott Davis Bows At Tribeca For Juneteenth

Actress Lex Scott Davis is best known for her roles in the films Superfly and The First Purge. She also starred in the recent ABC series, Rebel. Davis now stars in Magnolia Bloom, a 1950s period drama short set to debut at the Tribeca Festival.

Directed by Tayo Amos (On The Clock, A Blossom in the Night), produced by Matt Mitchell and Julia Dillard, and written by Joi Porter and Matt Mitchell, Magnolia Bloom takes inspiration from Josephine Baker and other courageous performances and their heroic stance against segregation. Their collective actions sparked the civil rights movement in the 1950s.

Davis portrays a 50s-era Vegas singer in the film, which was one of five films fully funded by the USC’s Stark Producing Program.

Magnolia Bloom is set to premiere at the Tribeca Festival as part of its Juneteenth screening block on June 19. The film will also be screened virtually via Tribeca’s At Home virtual programming.
