Morehouse College makes ‘right decision’ to cancel winter and spring sports, school officials announce

ATLANTA — Morehouse College announced Friday the decision to cancel all intercollegiate winter and spring sports for the 2020-21 season.

This past December the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced that it was delaying the start of winter and spring sports until March 1. After closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic, college officials decided that the health and safety of our student-athletes and staff was too important to continue as originally planned.

“This was not an easy decision to make, but after carefully considering all of the available information provided by public health officials, we feel this is the right decision for the well-being of our student-athletes and staff,” said Director of Athletics Curtis Campbell. “We now look forward to continue supporting our students and coaches as we shift our attention to the start of fall sports.”

All scholarships will continue to be honored for the 2020-21 academic year.
