Naturi Naughton is letting her music speak for itself.
In a recent interview with People, the Power actress revealed that her upcoming album will speak on the “tumultuous breakup” from the early 2000s girl group, 3LW.
“I’m excited to tell my story through songs,” shares Naughton. “I do talk about some of the feelings I had after being ousted by 3LW.”
Fans can recall the 36-year-old standing side by side former girl group members Adrienne Bailon Houghton and Kiely Williams. The Soul Train Music Award winners were known for their classic hits “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right)” and “Playas Gon’ Play”.
During an episode of TV One’s hit series UNCENSORED, Naughton revealed that “it’s hard to pinpoint where things went bad with 3LW,” but she remembers the day they officially broke up outside of a KFC in Atlanta.
“And there was some names called, some profanities thrown,” she recalls. “She turned around, Kiely, and threw the plate of food. Mashed potatoes, chicken, whatever else was in there, in my face. I got out the car and I was just like I’m going home.”
Although the singer doesn’t “talk to” both Bailon or Williams, The Real host had her former 3LW member as a guest in 2017 to apologize for the fallout; “I genuinely from the bottom of my heart never meant any harm towards you.”
Naughton is hoping to “bring back that ’90s era vibe with people really singing” in her second studio album.
