As students prepare themselves for the 2021-2022 academic year, former Olympic gold medalist and Hampton graduate Francena McCorory is doing her part giving back to an incoming freshman of her alma mater.
In a video on Twitter, McCorory has announced that she will be offering $1,000 to a Hampton University freshman.
McCorory spoke about her inspiration to give back to her university the same way her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, helped her when she was a freshman with no money.

She details the requirements to be eligible for the money which includes following her on Twitter @theREALMcCorory and sending her a one-minute video of why you want to or what inspired you to attend Hampton University.

Francena McCorory graduated from Hampton in 2010 with a degree in psychology.
She is a decorated track and field athlete winning multiple NCAA championships in the 400 meters and 4×400 while also winning two gold medals in the 4×400 in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
In June, McCorory announced her retirement from competition in a post on Twitter saying, “Track and field afforded me the opportunity to RETIRE at 32 years old. I’ll be forever grateful.”
