By now you’ve likely heard Robert Townsend is bringing The Five Heartbeats to Broadway (and what’s even more exciting is just like the film, the play will be co-written by Keenen Ivory Wayans). And while it will absolutely be hard to fill the shoes of Townsend, Leon Robinson, Tico Wells, Michael Wright and Harry J. Lennix, we’ve rounded up a few actors and singers we’d love to see tackle the roles. We’ll leave it up to you to cast the individual roles.
Luke James
Jussie Smollett
Elijah Kelley
Trey Songz
Chris Brown
Honorable mention: Leon Bridges.
The 1991 film tells the story of a soul-inspired group of five talented singers during the rise of Motown…trials, tribulations, and everything in between through the lens of Townsend‘s character, Donald “Duck” Matthews. Remember this iconic scene?
TELL US: Who would you like to see in the individual roles?
