*When news broke that she had passed at 83, I went through my OUR ROOTS collection to retrieve another of the black and white drawings I had done on Tina Turner some years back as I now needed to update.

I found out that Turner was naïve about politics in South Africa when she entertained during the Apartheid state in the 1970s. She had regrets about this, as she later turned down other offers to perform in that country. After Apartheid it seems she wanted to redeem herself.

Tina would return to South Africa in 1996 as part of her “Wildest Dreams” World Tour which kicked off from there in Cape Town. She performed four concerts in total in Cape Town, Durban, and two in Johannesburg.

With a revitalized music career, she was simply the best.
