Prairie View A&M releases statement regarding 2020 State Fair Classic football game

PRAIRIE VIEW – As concern continues to grow about the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the state of Texas, officials from the State Fair of Texas have made the difficult decision to cancel the annual event.

One of the hallmarks of the State Fair is the State Fair Classic, where the Prairie View A&M University Panthers face off against the Grambling Tigers. The game typically is held the opening weekend of the Fair and is currently scheduled for September 26.

“We look forward to the State Fair Classic every year. At this time, there are no plans to cancel the State Fair Classic game. However, these plans may change as the health and well-being of our students, alumni, and supporters are our primary concern,” explained PVAMU Interim Athletics Director Alicia Pete.

The Department of Athletics will continue to monitor closely the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), local and state officials and will provide more information as planning moves forward.
