The death of popular rapper Nipsey Hussle shocked the world; family and fans still mourn his death. On September 5th, Puma released the collection the slain rapper was working with the clothing company on at the time of his death. In a greater show of support for the rapper’s work, The Marathon Continues Collection sold out in a day on Puma’s website.
Fans had been given a heads up on Hussle’s Instagram page, “Our team is proud to announce that our first collaborative capsule with Puma drops on September 5th 2019. Nipsey spearheaded this project from concept to final product over the course of last year, flying to meetings, reviewing samples, bringing in material references he liked, and most importantly ensuring that it reflected his style authentically with no compromise. Each detail from logo placement, fit, colorways, and materials was thoughtfully done. His signature style and DNA can be found in each garment that’s part of this collection from the khaki suit to the tracksuit. This project is very special to our team and we’re handling it with the utmost care to ensure it’s delivered exactly as Nipsey envisioned it. It’s a privilege for us to honor his commitment and carry out this project for people to receive a personally curated collection by Nip Hussle Tha Great.”
Released less than six months after his untimely March 31, 2019 death, the collection consists of 19 pieces, including two different color combos of the brand’s iconic California sneaker, a Marathon-themed MCS tracksuit, as well as various types of graphic T-shirts and matching jackets and pants.
Even in death, Hussle’s efforts are helping the community and people he set out to assist. All of the proceeds from the sale of the PUMA x TMC Collection goes toward the organization his family has established, the Neighborhood Nip Foundation. The organization seeks to continue Hussle’s legacy by “empowering the South Los Angeles community and neighborhoods alike across the globe.”
The 33-year-old Hussle was murdered in front of his Marathon Clothing store, located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
After the release of The Marathon Continues Collection, Hussle’s girlfriend, actress Lauren London, shared video clips of the slain rapper on her Instagram page, including Hussle in business meetings. She’s been steadfastly promoting the man and his Puma collection on her social media page.
