Rebel Wilson definitely stepped in it last week while on Ellen. While promoting her new movie the actress made the very bold and very incorrect statement of being the first plus-sized actress to star in a romantic comedy. “I have two love interests in the film…I’mm kind of proud to be the first plus size girl to be the star of a romantic comedy.”
Watch below.
Black Twitter, and frankly all of Twitter quickly reminded the 38-year-old Austrailian just how late she was. Like real late. She clearly forgot about Queen Latifah and Mo’Nique’s characters in Living Single and The Parkers, and social media had a field day letting her know.
Hey girl! Yeah I of course know of these movies but it was questionable as to whether: 1. Technically those actresses were plus size when filming those movies or 2. Technically those films are catorgorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead. So there’s a slight grey area

huh? Queen….has been plus size….her entire….career. Monique…has been plus size…her. entire. career.

Queen Latifah on Living Single was self assured, dated a bunch of fine men and her weight was never a punch line.
This Rebel Wilson mess reminded me how Queen impacted my life as a plus-sized woman, just by being her.

Mo’Nique even weighed in.
Hey my sweet sister. Let’s please not allow this business to erase our talent with giving grey areas and technicalities. Take a moment and know the history. DON’T BE A PART OF ERASING IT. I wish you the best.

And apparently, instead of acknowledging the truth, she simply misspoke, Rebel has since blocked critics, namely black ones, that have questioned her stance. And we aren’t surprised one bit. Remember when we talked to the cast of Living Single this summer to celebrate 25 years of their iconic show? Watch below.
