Reggie Theus to be named Bethune-Cookman basketball coach, AD

Former NBA star and actor Reggie Theus is reportedly being named basketball coach and athletic director at Bethune-Cookman.

As first reported by The Undefeated, Theus, who previously coached at Cal State Northridge, New Mexico State, and in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings, replaces the departed Ryan Ridder as head coach. Ridder left Bethune-Cookman to take a job at Tennessee-Martin.

On the administrative side, Theus would assume the role most recently held by then-athletic director Lynn Thompson, who left the post last month.

Bethune-Cookman canceled the remainder of its 2020-21 athletic season due to the COVID-19 pandemic on Oct. 27, 2020.

The Wildcats’ men’s basketball program went 16-14 record when it last played during the 2019-2020 season.
