Report: Southern to name Jaguars assistant Jason Rollins head football coach

Southern has found its next head football coach.

After a week of uncertainty and rumors, the school is reportedly set to name Jason Rollins as interim coach, according to Jaguar Journal radio show host Reggie Flood and confirmed by WBRZ TV in Baton Rouge.

Rollins was a safeties coach and special teams coordinator under former head coach Dawson Odums. He previously was an assistant at UT-San Antonio.

Reports indicated that Southern is expected to make an official announcement at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Athletic director Roman Banks over the last several days said he wanted to name a coach by the end of the week and explained the school had either interviewed or contacted 16 coaching candidates, including former Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk.
