A little over a year ago Robert Townsend took to social media to ask fans if there was any interest in a sequel to the cult classic, B.A.P.S. starring Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle (it’s crazy to think it’s been 23 years since the movie debuted).

And while the reaction was overwhelmingly favorable, it looks like Townsend may have had a change of heart. In an interview with Shadow And Act, the Director and Producer responsible for some of our favorite films killed the idea of reuniting Nisi and Mickey on screen. “The thing that I would say is that I don’t really try to repeat myself. I’ve got so many ideas in my head, I’m just trying to get all these ideas out.”

Fans should be happy to know that there is one film the 63-year-old would bring back, “the only thing I’d revisit right now is because of The Five Heartbeats because of the fans.”

News of Keenen Ivory Wayans and Townsend bringing The Five Heartbeats to Broadway surfaced in 2018 (we even selected our picks), so we’re not totally surprised. We’re just glad the train is still moving! Watch below.
