*Richard Williams may be known for molding his two daughters Venus and Serena into tennis legends, and now the patriarch is reportedly raising his 11-year-old son on his own.
In an interview with RadarOnline, Williams’ oldest son Chavoita Williams provided an update on his father’s failing (2nd) marriage to his estranged wife Lakeisha Graham-Williams. According to Chavoita, Lakeisha is not doing a thing to help raise his little brother Junior Williams, the son she shares with Richard. The only thing she is doing is being active in spending Richard’s money.
“Every time I turn around, she’s doing the dumbest stuff…She comes to the house; she uses Junior as a pawn and then he’ll end up giving her his card or something,” Chavoita told Radar. “It’s his fault to a degree because he allows her to get the card…I tell him ‘Okay, if she says you can’t see Junior then you just can’t see Junior for a while, and we will go through the courts and deal with it’…He stays with my dad seven days a week. My dad takes him to school and picks him up, my dad would tell you this himself.”
Chavoita’s comments come after Lakeisha’s request to dismiss divorce documents filed by Richard Williams was recently granted by default. According to The Jasmine Brand, the divorce filing was thrown out after Richard Williams did not appear for a deposition and a court date. Chavoita stated his father’s nonappearance in court happened because his Richard is “terrified” of legal proceedings due to speech impairments brought on by several strokes.
Richard’s non-appearance resulted in the judge reportedly agreeing to hear the case again once he and Lakeisha “figure out the next steps” to refiling.
Chavoita Williams suggested the state of his father’s marriage to Lakeshia will likely prompt him to request a dissolution of the union once again. He went to claim his dad is currently the sole provider and caregiver “seven days a week” for Junior.
Richard and Lakeisha’s legal drama is a far cry from when the couple married in 2010, several years after he divorced his ex-wife Oracene. Oracene and Richard are parents to Venus and Serena. The 81-year-old dad officially filed to divorce Lakeisha in 2017, after Oracene admitted to forging his signature to transfer their million-dollar home to her name.
Although Chavoita suggests he may look into suing his Lakeisha for exploiting his father, The Jasmine Brand notes it is unclear whether or not Richard himself plans to take legal action.
