Shalon Pillow resigns as FAMU head women’s basketball coach

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Shalon Pillow, head coach of Florida A&M Women’s Basketball, has tendered her resignation after three years and two seasons at the helm of the Rattlers.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity to lead the women’s basketball program over the last three years,” stated Pillow. “I am more than grateful to have had the opportunity of working with the young women on the team and be part of their development on and off the court.”

During Pillow’s tenure, the Rattlers posted a 4-14 record in SWAC play in both seasons and secured a non-conference home game victory against Georgia State in the 2022-23 season. Notably, Pillow coached Dylan Horton, who emerged as one of the SWAC’s top scorers for two consecutive seasons. Horton was leading the league in scoring during the 2021-22 season until a season-ending injury occurred at Alabama State.

Under Pillow’s guidance, the Rattlers celebrated the achievements of Dylan Horton, who earned All-SWAC Second Team recognition in 2022-23, and accumulated eight SWAC Player/Impact Player of the Week awards. Moreover, ten student-athletes under Pillow’s leadership successfully obtained their degrees.

“I want to thank Coach Pillow for the years of service she has provided FAMU,” expressed Tiffani-Dawn Sykes, Vice President and Director of Athletics. “I wish her the best as she prepares for the next chapter in her professional career. Right now, my focus is on supporting our student-athletes. Many of them just arrived on campus last week for summer school, and I want to ensure that this is a seamless transition for them academically and athletically. I look forward to identifying the next leader of FAMU Women’s Basketball in the coming days.”

Pillow’s final day as head coach will be on August 1.
