Shedeur Sanders named to Black College Football Player of the Year Watch List

On a night when he could almost do no wrong, Jackson State quarterback Shedeur Sanders’s record-setting performance against Tennessee State Saturday earned the true freshman national recognition.

In just his second collegiate start, Sanders completed 30 of 40 passes for 362 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-16 win over Tennessee State in the Southern Heritage Classic.

The outing earned the four-star signal-caller a spot on the 2021 Black College Football Player of the Year Watch List.

Sanders has joined Prairie View quarterback Jawon Pass and Hampton running back Elijah Burris on the list since the start of the regular season. The list is currently composed of 59 players from 27 different HBCUs.

Four finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 30. The winner of the Black College Football Player of the Year Award, which will be announced during halftime of the Inaugural HBCU Legacy Bowl on Feb. 19, 2022.
