Sister of Ja Morant commits to play women’s basketball at HBCU

Teniya “Niya” Morant, younger sister of Memphis Grizzlies all-star Ja Morant, decided her first scholarship offer was the one she wanted, announcing her commitment to the Mississippi Valley State women’s basketball team Thursday morning.

Morant, a 5-7 senior guard, was a stat sheet-stuffer for Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee this past season, averaging 11.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, helping the Lady Mustangs to a 21-11 record in 2022-23.

Morant will look to help a Devillettes team that finished 2-27 in 2022-23 and have six players returning this coming season. MVSU offered Morant back in January, making headlines as the HBCUs continue to return to recruiting prominence in various sports.
