SWAC announces Women’s Basketball Player of the Week – Jan. 7




BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern’s graduate student forward Niya Mitchell has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after her impressive efforts over this past week of play.

The Bay City, Texas native led TSU to a 2-0 start in SWAC play with a record weekend. Mitchell averaged 19 points, 17.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals while shooting 77 percent from the field (17-of-22).

She posted two double-doubles with a high of 22 rebounds against Southern, while grabbing 13 rebounds against Alcorn State. Mitchell scored 16 points against SU and 22 points against the Lady Braves.
