SWAC Football Players of the Week – Oct. 14




BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alcorn State’s Felix Harper, Grambling State’s DeAndre McCarthy, Southern’s Cesar Barajas and Alabama State’s Colton Adams were all named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Football Players of the Week in week seven of the season for their outstanding play the league announced on Monday.

Offensive
Alcorn State
Felix Harper (5-11, 180, R-Jr., QB, Fairburn, Ga.)

Harper threw for 324 yards and five touchdowns in Alcorn’s 42-17 win over Savannah State on Homecoming. He was 16-for-21 passing with no interceptions. Two of his TD’s came on bomb passes as he connected with Chris Blair for 71 yards and Juan Anthony for 84 yards. Since taking over as the starter the last four games, Harper has thrown for 1,146 yards, 16 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Defensive
Grambling State
DeAndre McCarthy (5-11, 210, Sr., LB, Winnsboro, La.)
McCarthy followed up a stand-out performance last week with another exceptional outing versus Alabama A&M this past weekend. He tallied 14 tackles highlighted by 1.5 tackles for loss along with 1.5 sacks. He also was credited with one quarterback hurry.

Specialist
Southern
Cesar Barajas (6-1, 225, Jr., K, Arcadia, Fla.)
Barajas played a significant role in the Jaguars 32-28 home win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday. He connected on two field goals (44, 29) tallying a total of six points in SU’s victory.

Newcomer
Alabama State
Colton Adams (6-2, 220, Fr., LB, Wetumpka, Ala.)
Adams finished the day with seven tackles in a 31-16 victory over Jackson State, including five solo stops as he led the team in tackles for the second consecutive week. He also had four knockdowns of JSU’s quarterback.
