The Game is back on. Paramount+ is giving the popular dramedy series the reboot treatment with a ten-episode series order with Wendy Raquel Robinson and Hosea Chanchez reprising their roles.
Returning as sports agent Tasha Mack and football player Malik Wright, Robinson and Chanchez will be making their return with legacy cast members set to make special appearances, per Deadline.
The NAACP Image Award-winner took to Instagram to share the exciting news, “Ok pinch me! It’s Fa’Real y’all!”
“Pretty freaking amazing to see the awesomeness of God! 3 different networks 3 reincarnations, 3 re-imaginings of our ‘Little Engine That Could’,” wrote The Steve Harvey Show actress. “I’m so thank-full for this journey that began almost 18 years ago! When I was at my lowest, God saw fit and blessed me with a cast, crew, and content creator that would change my life FOREVER! To everyone that has ever watched, played, written, directed and laid eyes on the GAME…THANK YOU! You are ALL a part of the secret sauce that makes every resuscitation of this #MagicallyDelicious.”
Created by Mara Brock Akil (Girlfriends), the show originally ran on The CW for three seasons until it was picked up by BET for an extra six seasons and extended to an hour-long series. Brock Akil will executive produce alongside original executive producer Kelsey Grammer, Tom Russo, and Devon Greggory (American Soul) who will also serve as the showrunner and writer.
The new series “will relocate from San Diego to Las Vegas and will see new players offer a modern-day examination of Black culture through the prism of pro football. The team will tackle racism, sexism, classism and more as they fight for fame, fortune, respect and love—all while trying to maintain their souls as they each play The Game.”
“Fifteen years ago, I created The Game and am so proud of the success we had, and that I was able to create characters and stories that resonated with so many people,” said Brock Akil in a statement. “I couldn’t be happier about leaving my beloved characters like Tasha Mack and Malik Wright in the hands of Devon, Wendy and Hosea, who I know will build off of the rich foundation the show has.”
