‘The Wiz’ Casts Newcomer Nichelle Lewis As Dorothy For Broadway, National Tour

Broadway’s upcoming production of The Wiz has found its Dorothy!

The musical has announced that Broadway newcomer Nichelle Lewis will star as Dorothy and lead the The Wiz cast on Broadway as well as its national tour, which begins this fall.

Lewis, a Virginia native, landed the role after being discovered on TikTok. She was selected from more than 2,000 submissions for the coveted role.

Lewis joins Wayne Brady, Alan Mingo Jr., Kyle Ramar Freeman, Phillip Johnson Richardson and Avery Wilson.

Wayne Brady will star as the Wiz on Broadway in the Spring of 2024, in San Francisco (Jan. 16 – Feb. 11, 2024) at the Golden Gate Theatre, and in Los Angeles (Feb. 13 – March 3, 2024) at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Alan Mingo Jr. will star in the role of the Wiz when The Wiz National Tour kicks off this fall in Baltimore, MD.

Lewis also joins Deborah Cox as Glinda and Melody A. Betts as Aunt Em and Evillene, as well as Kyle Ramar Freeman, Phillip Johnson Richardson and Avery Wilson, who were cast as the Lion, Tinman, and Scarecrow respectively.

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker are producing this production of ‘The Wiz.’

As we previously reported, The Real Housewives of Atlanta stars joined the all-star production team, which includes a book by William F. Brown and a Tony Award-winning score by Charlie Smalls (and others), director Schele Williams , award-winning choreographer JaQuel Knight, Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin, Joseph Joubert (music supervision, orchestrations, & music arrangements), and Allen René Louis (vocal arrangements, music arrangements).

‘The Wiz’ will launch a national tour this Fall in Baltimore, MD from September 23-30 before returning to Broadway for a limited time in Spring 2024.
