‘The Wiz’: Wayne Brady And Alan Mingo Jr. To Play The Wiz In New Broadway Musical

Broadway’s new production of The Wiz has found its Wiz!

The musical just announced that Wayne Brady (Whose Line Is It Anyway?) and  Alan Mingo Jr. (Kinky Boots) will lead the production as the Wiz in the Tony Award-winning production.

Brady will star as the Wiz on Broadway in the Spring of 2024, in San Francisco (January 16 – February 11, 2024) at the Golden Gate Theatre, and in Los Angeles (February 13 – March 3, 2024) at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Mingo Jr. will star in the role of the Wiz when The Wiz National Tour kicks off this fall in Baltimore, MD.

Brady and Mingo Jr. join Kyle Ramar Freeman, Phillip Johnson Richardson and Avery Wilson, who were recently cast as the Lion, Tinman, and Scarecrow respectively.

As of this writing, it is unclear who will play the role of Dorothy, Evillene, or Glinda The Good Witch of the South.

Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker are producing this production of ‘The Wiz.’

As we previously reported, The Real Housewives of Atlanta stars joined the all-star production team, which includes a book by William F. Brown and a Tony Award-winning score by Charlie Smalls (and others), director Schele Williams (The Notebook, revival of Disney’s Aida), award-winning choreographer JaQuel Knight (Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” Black is King), Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show, Late Night With Seth Meyers), Joseph Joubert (music supervision, orchestrations, & music arrangements), and Allen René Louis (vocal arrangements, music arrangements).

‘The Wiz’ will launch a national tour this Fall in Baltimore, MD from September 23-30 before returning to Broadway for a limited time in Spring 2024.

Tickets are currently available exclusively as part of season subscription packages and group sales in each tour city. Additional tour information is available at WizBroadway.com.
