Tiffany Haddish’s reaction to winning a Grammy for her comedy album Black Mitzvahwas captured on camera while she was filming CBS’s Kids Say The Darndest Things.
Haddish was informed of winning from the show’s producer, who told her in her earpiece. Haddish broke down in tears over the win, explaining to the young girls on stage with her that she had made Grammys history as the first Black woman to win in the category in nearly 40 years. Whoopi Goldberg was the last winner of the award in 1985.
“It’s a lot of bumpy roads that you cross, right? And it’s a lot of times you feel like, ‘Well, am I doing the right thing? Is this good enough? Am I good enough? Am I strong enough to do this job?’ And then you just have to believe in yourself as much as you can,” she said, as reported by Yahoo! Entertainment.
