Unless someone is as delusional as Donald Trump and his followers who choose to ignore reality and marvel at America through MAGA-red rose-colored glasses, there’s no denying that the polls have not been friendly to the ex-president as of late. As we reported on Thursday, new polling data collected by the Decision Desk HQ and other polling firms predicted that, at present, Vice President Kamala Harris has a 56% chance of winning the presidency. You just know that when Trump heard that news he immediately shouted, “FAKE NEWS” and thought, “Just wait until my buddies at Fox News have to say about this!”
Well — about that…
On Wednesday, Fox News, the network where jingoism, white nationalism and xenophobia go to present themselves as journalism, released a poll that shows Harris is ahead of Trump in three of the four key Sun Belt states — Arizona, Georgia and Nevada — with an overall lead of 1 point. Predictably, Trump’s campaign responded to the bad news by getting really angry at the messenger.
Here They Go Again: the Trump Remix
“It’s that time of year again. Fox is releasing atrocious polling,” the campaign said in a statement Thursday. “President Trump continues to outperform polling from past cycles. President Trump is 10 points ahead of where he was in Arizona at this point in 2020, according to Fox. Likewise, he is running 8 points ahead of his 2020 polling in Nevada and 5 points ahead of his 2020 polling in North Carolina.”
So, basically, Trump’s campaign has responded to Fox News’ poll that shows Harris leading Trump by noting that 2024 Trump is leading 2020 Trump. Even if it’s true it’s a weird flex, but OK.
Mind you, Trump constantly treats Fox News like a stepchild he’s ashamed of whenever the relatively rare occasion happens that the network delivers news that isn’t favorable to him. Back in June, he tweeted, “Nobody can ever trust Fox News…” just because House Speaker Paul Ryan made an appearance on the network and said Trump was unfit for office. A few short months and a new Democratic candidate later, and Trump is out here challenging Harris to debate him at Fox News because he’s transparently afraid to go head-to-head with her at their scheduled venue at ABC News. He also called into Fox News while its anchors were covering the Democratic National convention to shout at anyone who would listen that Harris was lying about everything in her well-received speech.
So, Trump and his campaign clearly need the network, because Fox News reporters typically hump Trump’s leg and normalize his incessant lies, but they hate the network when it occasionally has to report actual news, and that news isn’t what Trump wants to be reported.
Sad.
