Trump Reflects on Rally Assassination Attempt: ‘Felt the Bullet Rip Through My Skin’ – Biden Calls Incident ‘Sick’

*Former President Donald Trump has provided a harrowing account of an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in which he said he “felt the bullet ripping through [his] skin.”

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee, aged 78, shared his first statement since the attack after being transported to a local hospital.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump said in a statement issued via his Truth Social page.

He added: “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, and shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”

Initial reports from the rally were chaotic and conflicting, with some suggesting that Trump had been struck by glass rather than a bullet. However, Trump’s detailed account has clarified the severity of the incident.

“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote. He also expressed deep condolences to the family of the person who was killed at the rally and to the family of another person who was badly injured. “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country,” he added.

Trump further noted that nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who was killed on the scene. The dramatic turn of events culminated with Trump falling on stage after the shots rang out, only to rise defiantly with blood streaming down his face. In a moment both tense and defiant, he shouted to his supporters, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

In response to the attack, President Joe Biden described the assault as “sick” during remarks on Saturday night. Biden also mentioned that he attempted to call Trump at the hospital, following criticism that the White House’s initial statements had downplayed the severity, merely referring to it as an “incident.”

This event has thrown a spotlight on the escalating tensions and volatility surrounding the upcoming election, highlighting the dangerous polarization within the country.
