Richmond, VA – Multi-media corporation, Urban One, Inc., plans to add a multi-million-dollar entertainment complex to its portfolio.
Once approved on the November ballot, construction will begin immediately, with completion set for October 2024. The project, located at the long-neglected Phillip Morris industrial area at Commerce Road and Walmsley Boulevard in south Richmond, is expected to generate 3,000 construction jobs, 1,500 permanent jobs (with profit-sharing for employees) and more than $500 million in new tax revenue in the first ten years that the city can use for schools/teacher salaries, roads, community programs and more. Additionally, this endeavor will make Urban One the only Black majority-owned casino in the country. The ONE Casino & Resort is projected to receive over 3.5 million visitors yearly bringing an unprecedented amount of revenue to the Richmond area.
“This is not a box with slots machines,” said Liggins, Urban One CEO. “This is a significant investment in a community that will bring inclusivity in terms of jobs, revenue sharing and tourism. Up to now, Richmond has not really benefited from the kind of entertainment that its consumers want and deserve. We are excited to be the catalyst to start this change.”
The $560+ million site touts over 100,000 sf of gaming space inclusive of over 1,800 slot machines, 100+ table games, a poker room, cutting-edge technology for coinless wagering and player tracking. Additionally, the Legacy Tower is designed to be a 4-star, AAA Diamond, 250-room hotel resort. The entertainment complex includes a live show theater, green spaces, soundstage, and several eateries and bars.
The ONE Casino & Resort project is on the upcoming election ballot on November 2 for the City of Richmond. For more information, visit: One Casino Resort
