Editor’s note: Major spoilers for WandaVision episode 5.
Fans are still shaking after this week’s WandaVision…because what in the world!? As each episode continues to pull out all of the surprises and the stops, this week’s ended with Quicksilver showing up at Wanda and Vision’s door. But it wasn’t Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver we’ve seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…but Evan Peters’ Quicksilver that was in the Fox X-Men films. The jury is still out on whether this is really Peters’ Quicksilver or maybe a red herring, but it hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. The episode also saw a lot of great action between Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Jimmy Woo (Randall Park).
Ahead of episode 5, Shadow and Act spoke with Dennings and Park, who spoke about coming back to the MCU.
“There were two elements to this process. For me, one was just getting the call that they wanted me back, which was already a huge surprise,” explained Dennings. “And then hearing that it was WandaVision because I was aware of, you know, their, their new shows that they were all coming out with. And I was like, ‘Oh, it’s gotta be one of those, but I wonder which one it is. WandaVision was the one I least expected because Darcy Lewis has had no interaction with the world around the show.”
“So this was a real left turn. And the process really was, I got the call didn’t know anything, [I] only kind of knew which show it was,” she continued. “And then I went to a very secretive conference room. I signed an NDA in the lobby, went into the room and on the walls were all of the references and all of the things that they were planning forward. And it was crazy. I mean, I just was like, ‘What is this? This is like so surprising. So they’ve really pulled it off. And I’m so excited to be here, honestly.”
Park explained, “When I first got called in, I didn’t know anything. Just absolutely nothing. All I knew is that there was a Marvel show that was interested in bringing back Jimmy Woo.” The actor says right then and there, he was in.
“I sat in this conference room with the head writer, Jac Schaeffer, and she broke down the series and I was just so blown away. I was even more excited to be a part of it. It just sounded so unique. It sounded like something that had never been done before. Also, as a fan of like classic sitcoms, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool.’ But a part of me was also like, ‘How are they going to pull this off?’ You know this is so ambitious and so different. But just throughout it all, it’s been, it’s been such a joy.”
