Air,” directed by Ben Affleck, is the must-see film this holiday weekend. The title, “Air,” is derived from Air Jordan footwear.

Coined after Michael Jordan, Air Jordan brought in $5.1 billion for the fiscal year 2022.

Suffice it to say, this is quite an underdog movie where the sleeper sneaker ends up on top. Kudos goes to Michael’s Mom who made it all happen and much, much more.

“AIR” chronicles a game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand.

Prior to Jordan’s sign, Adidas and Converse were the forerunners in the sports brand game, especially Adidas.

In their effort to woo Jordan in the movie and the challenges faced, Nike’s basketball expert Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) pointed out the popularity of “My Adidas.”

This inspirational story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become one of the greatest athletes of all time.

The entire cast is a slam dunk. Viola Davis (Deloris Jordan) always brings her A-game. Ben Affleck is convincing as Nike founder and CEO, Phil Knight; as well as Jason Bateman (Rob Strasser), Nike’s VP of Marketing; Chris Tucker (Howard White), and Sonny’s colleague and advisor; David Falk (Chris Messina). Messina’s outrageous, off-the-charts performance will keep audiences amused and engaged. The impressive cast also includes Marlon Wayans (George Raveling), Matthew Maher (Peter Moore), and Julius Tennon (James Jordan).

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Based on the world of Nintendo’s Mario games, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” does not translate successfully onto the big screen. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” has a plot on par with typical mundane toy and game movies made to sell products. It auspiciously

While trying to fix a water main break, Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) are sucked into a magic pipe and whisked to the world of Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Bowser (Jack Black), and Toad (Keegan-Michael Key). When the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on a tedious journey to unite with Luigi. The inauspicious story begins with gun violence which is every parent’s nightmare these days.

Ironically, John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in a live-action format in 1993’s “Super Mario Bros.,” is boycotting “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” He says there are no Latin characters in it. Well, among the multitude of mushroom characters, there are no blacks either.
