*In a historic moment at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination on Thursday.
The landmark speech, delivered on the closing day of the convention, showcased Harris’ vision for the country and highlighted the stark contrast between her platform and that of former President Donald Trump.
Utilizing the opportunity, Harris first recited an inspiring account of her life story and professional background. She then pivoted to address current national and international hot-button issues, with strong stances on the war in Gaza, immigration, and abortion.
“I promise to be a president for all Americans. You can always trust me to put country above party and self, to hold sacred America’s fundamental principles, from the rule of law to free and fair elections, to the peaceful transfer of power,” she reassured the audience.
Harris didn’t hold back when it came to former President Trump, calling him an “unserious man” and cautioning about the severe consequences of his potential return to the White House.
“Just imagine Donald Trump with no guardrails and how he would use the immense powers of the presidency of the United States — not to improve your life, not to strengthen our national security — but to serve the only client he has ever had: himself,” she declared emphatically.
At the peak of her discourse, Harris invoked a shared defense against regression, referring to Project 2025, a policy list attributed to Trump’s closest advisors, which she claimed would drag the country backward.
“But America, we are not going back. We are not going back,” she repeated, prompting the crowd to erupt in chants of “We’re not going back!”
Harris’ address was not the lone highlight of the final day; the convention also featured speeches by notable figures, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer, actress and activist Eva Longoria, Senator Mark Kelly, and former GOP Representative Adam Kinzinger.
Concluding her nomination acceptance, Harris called upon Americans to ” “write the next great chapter in the most extraordinary story ever told,” urging them to fight for the country’s ideals with optimism and faith.
“It is now our turn to do what generations before us have done,” she said. “Guided by optimism and faith, to fight for this country we love, to fight for the ideals we cherish, and to uphold the awesome responsibility that comes with the greatest privilege on Earth — the privilege and pride of being an American.”
“So let’s get out there,” Harris exhorted. “Let’s fight for it.”
The speech ignited a wave of enthusiasm among delegates and supporters, setting the stage for a fiercely contested presidential race.
As Harris steps into the spotlight, the Democratic Party rallies behind her message of unity, progress, and resilience, promising a dynamic and passionate campaign in the months ahead.
