*Did you see how VP Kamala Harris dodged that question about claiming Blackness only when it’s convenient for her, during that CNN interview with Dana Bash last week?
Donald Trump is being called a race-bater for bringing it up during his appearance at the NABJ convention last month. Still, it’s an issue even some Black people have questioned.
During her nomination speech at the Democratic National Convention Harris said she will represent all Americans, but she continues to pull at the heartstrings of Black people by always referencing her affiliation with Howard University, with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and her Jamaican family.
Now Harris has published a letter to (presumably) Black college students that acknowledges their role in getting her elected to vice president. And she asked for their support again in November.
What does Harris plan to do for Black people specifically in exchange for their vote? Comedian Steve Harvey told Black people to stop asking Harris for tangibles in exchange for their vote. Entertainment mogul Ice Cube and Dr. Umar Johnson said Black people should expect reciprocity.
In 2020 Harris admitted she would do nothing specifically for Black people as vice president, during an interview. Maybe that answer was mandated by the Biden campaign as some people have asserted in Harris’ defense.
They claimed her job as vice president was to support the president’s agenda. Will she answer differently this time around as the lead politician on the ticket? Should Harris have to address the issue, or should she be allowed to dance around it while wearing Chucks and pearls?
