Zendaya’s Upcoming Film ‘Challengers’ Gets Pushed To 2024 Because Of Actors Strike

Zendaya’s upcoming starring role in Challengers won’t be seen until 2024 due to the actors strike.

Deadline reports that the film directed by Luca Guadagnino has been pushed back to April 26, 2024. It was originally slated to come to theaters this September. The film’s new release date might prove to be one of the first blows to the studios’ current steadfastness against writers and actors striking, since the film was looked at being one the hottest films coming to theaters this fall.

As Deadline reports, the trailer became the most viewed trailer for an original film in its first 24 hours, garnering over 150 million global views. The film has also canceled its Venice Film Festival debut. It was set to open the festival.

Also starring Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, Challengers stars Zendaya as a tennis prodigy who finds herself in between her husband and her former relationship. According to the official description:

Challengers stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to a champion on a losing streak (Faist), Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick (O’Connor) – his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide, and tensions run high, Tashi must ask herself, what will it cost to win.

The film’s screenplay is by Justin Kuritzkes. Zendaya, Amy Pascal, Guadagnino and Rachel O’Connor are producers.
