*Although she loves her famous parents, Zoë Kravitz harbors regret over her choice to live with her father, legendary rocker, Lenny Kravitz instead of her mother, former “A Different World” fixture Lisa Bonet.
Referencing a recent Esquire interview, Insider mentioned the decision’s impact on Zoë, when looking back on the path she chose when the former couple amicably filed for divorce in 1993.
“I think it was very hurtful that I moved away from her to be with my dad and my dad wasn’t even there,” Zoë told Esquire. “I just wish I had been able to appreciate what she was doing for me.”
“She was so focused on preserving my innocence. My creativity. Because she knew what the world is — that you don’t get that back,” she added, as she now reminisces with understanding her mother’s point of view.
In addition to her past decision amid the split, Zoë reflected on her childhood as the daughter of two famous parents. That reality was very much present in her dealings with those who were out to use Bonet or Kravitz to elevate themselves to a fame level.
“I can smell [other people’s true intentions out] pretty quickly. I had to when I was a kid, because he [Lenny Kravitz] didn’t,” the “Blink Twice” director shared.
She added: “He’s really trusting, and it’s sweet, but I can tell exactly what someone wants.”
Zoë’s remarks come after Lenny Kravitz commented on life successfully co-parenting his offspring after divorcing Bonet.
“I’m very proud of not only how Zoë came out, but how we did it,” the “Fly Away” vocalist told People in February. “We did it without lawyers and all that madness. We did it as a family, with love.”
Expanding his view, Lenny revealed that it was never a problem arranging custody of Zoë between him and Bonet.
In his eyes, figuring out who their daughter should live with “flowed naturally.”
“She had her years of living with her mom, and then when she was 11, she moved in with me up until she went to college, and it worked out,” Lenny recalled while referencing his debut album to sum up co-parenting with his ex-wife.
“We did it with understanding and being able to handle our own business without getting others involved. That is what ‘Let Love Rule’ is,” he explained. “It’s when you remove ego and all of the other elements and do what you’re supposed to do.”
